St Joseph - Terror of Demons
Council 18834

Who is St. Joseph?

St. Joseph is the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the earthly father of Jesus Christ. Though Scripture records no spoken words from him, his actions reveal a man of profound faith, obedience, and courage.

He is:

-
The Guardian of the Redeemer
-
The Head of the Holy Family
-
A model of fatherhood, work, and virtue
-
The Patron of the Universal Church

The Catholic Church has long honored St. Joseph as a quiet but powerful protector—one entrusted by God Himself with His greatest treasures.

Why “Terror of Demons”?

The title “Terror of Demons” comes from the Church’s rich devotional tradition, most notably found in the Litany of St. Joseph.

This title does not imply fear in a worldly sense—but rather reflects spiritual authority and holiness so great that evil cannot stand against it.

Why is St. Joseph feared by demons?

1. Perfect Obedience to God
Joseph responded immediately to God’s will (Matthew 1–2), frustrating the work of evil at every step.

2. Protector of Jesus and Mary
He safeguarded the Holy Family from Herod’s massacre—directly opposing the forces of destruction.

3. Purity and Humility
Demons, rooted in pride and rebellion, are repelled by Joseph’s humility and righteousness.

4. Spiritual Authority of Fatherhood
As head of the Holy Family, Joseph exercised true, God-given authority—something disordered spirits cannot withstand.

5. Silence and Strength
Joseph’s quiet fidelity contrasts the chaos of evil; his strength lies in disciplined virtue, not noise.
